We’re going to need more power. No, seriously, this is going to get LOUD!!! Our series of band announcements has now begun. Early bird tickets are almost gone. Standard weekend passes will follow. We cap our quantities folks. Don’t sleep on this.

    TICKET LINK!!

    SLEEP HIGH ON FIRE

If there was a “roots” of doom metal then SLEEP would be one of the deep veins. We’re pulling them up from their west coast mud and bringing them out to our lil field to melt your heads.

Then it’s going to get even wickeder with High On Fire! Trust me, wickeder is a word.

WE HAVE SHIT TONS MORE BANDS TO ANNOUNCE BUT DIDN’T WANT TO KILL YOU WITH ALL OF THEM AT ONCE.

Get your tickets dummy. We will absolutely run out of tickets this year.

We Painted A Margo Price Mural In East Nashville

We’re huge fans of Margo Price and her band. She is local to our neighborhood and our music community. She played the Muddy Roots Music Festival in 2015 and since then has signed with Third Man Records and blown up!! She is featured on late night shows often, tours the world playing all the major festivals and just recorded a duet with Willie Nelson. GET IT GIRL!

We’re hardcore fans and want to show support. So we did what we do best, we told folks about her! You want to hear something different on the radio? Well then get out there and support all those musicians coming from our community straight to the top. Go buy their music.

Wall is located across from Mitchell’s Deli. Eat there, friggin delicious organic local sammiches. The wall is also on the same strip as Fond Object records. Go in there and ask for Muddy Roots Records and Third Man Records! We’re stocked.

Muddy Roots 2018 Is Stoopid Fresh!

We’re always trying something new with our events. The 9th annual Muddy Roots Music Festival will follow tradition with new bands from neighboring music scenes as we always do. We tear down those genre lines. You can expect some pretty bad ass curve balls.

We damn near chose a new spot for next year too! That day will indeed come as we would like to own our own property one day. But we haven’t reached that point yet. We have however renegotiated our agreement with the Junebug Ranch which is allowing us to party it up there for atleast one more year!

Earlybird passes have already gone on sale. They are too cheap and you don’t deserve them. They’re also half sold out! You better get yours you stinky slacker!!

WEEKEND PASSES W/ FREE CAMPING HERE

    ONSITE SLEEP SHACKS HERE

Take a tour of the property with this video by Delane Chavez

We’ve already selected most our bands for 2018 but haven’t reached out yet. We’ll be doing that soon. We can’t always get through our inbox but if interested in playing send an email to muddyrootsbooking@gmail.com That is the ONLY place to reach us about hiring you.

We still have FREE showers. We still have FREE camping. You can still camp wherever you like except vendor row. We still don’t have RV hookups but you can still bring quiet generators. You can still bring your own booze. We will still have a literal truck load of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $3 a tall can. You still can’t bring your dogs, knives, glass bottles or fireworks. New rule: NO TRAIN KIDS. Our main rule is still, “DON’T BE A DICK

Dude, we’re rockin’ dueling stages in 2018. When one ends the other will start. You’re fried bologna in this Southern sammich. You’ll just turn around and continue to rock out. We’re gonna overload ya.

Soundtrack of Tennessee feature in The Tennessean

The Muddy Roots Music Festival was one of eight features as the “Soundtrack of Tennessee” in Nashville’s Tennessean newspaper. (USA Today)

    Putting down roots

One hundred and twenty miles west is Cookeville’s June Bug Ranch, where the Muddy Roots Music Festival is held every Labor Day Weekend. (It’s actually 95)

Muddy Roots, also a record label, is headquartered in Nashville’s Vinyl Bunker, a record shop filled with Cold War-era military surplus in the bottom floor of a parking garage near the Ryman Auditorium.

Attendance is usually capped at just over 2,000, making it one of Tennessee’s most intimate music festivals, even with its 50-acre footprint, four stages and 100-plus performers.

A lot of Muddy Roots devotees grew up listening to punk or metal before getting into country and roots music, said founder Jason Galaz, and the performers reflect that. Past lineups have included acts as different as bluegrass greats Del McCoury Band and sludge-metal pioneers the Melvins.

It’s not unusual to see a headliner watching another band, or jam around a campfire until the wee hours. Said Galaz, “Nobody’s a rock star here, no matter how big they are.”

“It’s the people who make Muddy Roots,” said Craig Aldridge, one of many who attend annually.

We meet Joachim Vanderzeypen near a sign offering $25 tattoos. It’s his first time in Cookeville. First time in America, actually. He’s from Belgium. He went to Muddy Roots’ European festival and liked it so much he crossed an ocean to attend another one. Wearing socks emblazoned with the Tennessee tristar, Vanderzeypen gets “BLESS YOUR HEART” inked on his knee. He says his mother will think it’s a religious tattoo.
